Our Mission

Contributing to a Cause

The Sentinel Center for Alcohol-Emergency Research, Education & Treatment (SARET) is a nonprofit initiative focused on advancing integrated clinical pathways and public-health education for alcohol-related medical emergencies. SARET aims to partner with clinical leaders and systems to research, educate, and design innovative solutions with the goal of limiting the amount of hospital revisits from patients with alcohol-related emergencies. We're striving to continue to build and lead to breakthroughs in alcohol-related emergency medicine and health as a whole.

The Gap in Alcohol Emergency Care

Alcohol-related emergencies are one of the most common and persistent challenges facing healthcare systems. These emergencies, particularly repeat visits, can lead to unnecessary challenges for both patients and healthcare systems. Emergency Departments' approach on alcohol-related cases can contribute to the large number of recurring visits for patients in that category. Contributing factors can be inconsistent or disconnected follow-up, and missed opportunities for proper education on conditions and sustained recovery. Patients frequently move between different systems, lacking a standardized pathway, making long term recovery and growth difficult.

Our Approach

Our approach at SARET is to focus on these limiting factors in alcohol emergency care, and find ways to build on, and rework them in a way that makes emergency visits increasingly effective for both patients and healthcare systems. By putting education at the forefront, we’re striving to reduce the amount of alcohol-related hospital revisits. Our initiative is to pave the way for the developing specialized alcohol-care pathways within emergency departments. The goal is a model that improves patient outcomes, while also easing the strain on emergency departments.

The First Steps

Immersive Education

At The Sentinel Center, we recognize that alcohol-related emergency department visits lead to the most patient revisits than any other emergency. A large factor in these revisits is lack of education, particularly about alcoholism, other conditions, and general prevention and recovery as a whole. We can begin creating an improved pathway for alcohol patients with attacking the limits on education.

Our starting goal at SARET is to be  providers of some of this key information within emergency departments. We strive to conduct research on these outcomes and to provide supplemental education to affected patients, as well as organizations on innovative ways to approach alcohol emergencies, and limit revisits as much as possible.

We believe in connecting with emergency departments and healthcare systems to form collaborations focused on improving the condition of alcohol emergency patients, while equally importantly optimizing emergency department flow and overall patient pathways.
